12 May Leaders Stay Positive
I believe one of the most valuable assets that I have in my life today is my
ability to stay positive.
When everybody else is losing their mind and the place is burning down and
everybody is running to one door, the leader doesn’t lose their mind.
You must have the ability to maintain control of your mind when everybody is
freaking out, when they’re worried, blaming, and criticizing.
If you can stay positive in that moment, you’re heads and shoulders ABOVE
everybody else.
By staying positive you become the obvious leader of the group not because
of your title, but because of your energy. People will always follow you if
you can maintain that positive attitude.
You need to do everything possible today to protect your attitude first.
Protect it from everything that can bring you down.
That means you need to take some preventive steps and guard yourself against
negative people. It’s not enough to just be positive, you have to protect
yourself from other people that maybe have a commitment (conscious or
unconscious) to being negative.
You know who I’m talking about. You’re thinking about them right now,
friends, family, work associates, mom, dad, cousins, uncles, aunts. People
close to you.
That doesn’t mean you get rid of them. It means you need to impact their
life and change them. That’s what a leader does.
Leadership isn’t a popularity contest.
Leadership isn’t about doing the likable thing; it’s about doing the tough
thing. Individuals need to lead, and quit looking for others to lead.
It’s the mentality that saves the day: “In my house, in my organization, and
in my community, I must lead or I will be derailed by people that are
confused.”
What do good leaders have in common?
* Decisiveness
* Clear communication
* Doing the right things for the greatest number of people
* Making hard calls
* Consistency and predictability
* Positivity
Leadership requires certain traits that make you attractive to others.
Staying positive in the midst of adversity is one BIG thing you can do to
grab control and secure the respect of others.
This is why you need to protect yourself from influences that bring you
down! The hard truth is this: you need to be the leader you criticize others for
not being!
